What to Expect During Your Neurovisual Exam?

Neurovisual exams are completed at our San Marco location in Jacksonville. This 90-minute exam includes an in-depth questionnaire about your symptoms, a thorough assessment of your eye health, and tests to check the connection between your eyes and your brain to figure out where your problems originate.

Our tests will include assessing your eye teaming (how well your eyes work together), your depth perception, your eye focusing and tracking, among other things. If you have any questions about the assessment, please contact us directly.

How Do Concussions Affect Vision?

Concussions and other traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) can cause visual symptoms such as dizziness, eye strain, and light sensitivity. Generally, your symptoms should resolve on their own as you heal, but some individuals experience long-term symptoms, referred to as post-concussion syndrome.

If you’re experiencing symptoms beyond 4 weeks after your injury, you may need additional support to get your eyes and brain working smoothly again. Common symptoms you may experience include difficulty focusing, especially changing focus from distant to near objects, difficulty tracking moving objects, a feeling of “tunnel vision” or being less aware of peripheral vision, difficulty with visual concentration (including reading), and light sensitivity.

Our neurovisual exams can assess for vision problems that persist as a result of post-concussion syndrome.

Prism Glasses for Eye Misalignment

Prism lenses can offer support for individuals experiencing eye misalignment for any reason, including as a result of a concussion. Prism lenses are customized to your individual prescription and work to realign your eyes for smoother, more seamless vision.

We offer Neurolens, a contoured prism lens, and TheraLens®, a microprism lens, both of which are designed to align your eyes at all distances.

In certain cases, prism lenses may be sufficient treatment to correct your vision and relieve your symptoms. If you require additional support, we can also assist with a referral to a vision therapist.
